Screen Printing Using Watercolours

This daisy screen print was created by drawing onto a printing screen using watercolour pencils. I then spread printing medium across the screen to give this design quite a controlled look. I liked this process, however it is not as suitable as using some other techniques.

The second print with the two flowers is a development from my original watercolour painting (above). This was the same process as the top print, however, I used watercolour paints which gave a more interesting and loose design. I am hoping to use some of these outcomes in my final show as I believe they show good technical ability and fit to my brief.

This is a test design on material. This gave me an idea into what my final outcome will look like when I get them digitally printed onto fabric. I have tried to experiment with using both traditional and modern methods of design.

I then added stitching to pick out certain elements of the design to add impact and to show off my ability of using a sewing machine.

This is one of my final outcomes. It is a material screen print on linen fabric. I am very happy with this and am hoping for it to become either a wall hanging or a patch work quilt.

Final Major Project

'A World Of Watercolour'

My final major project will be based around watercolour drawings of flowers and nature. I am interested in surface pattern and I would like to create well executed designs that can then be transferred into home ware. I am going to create a series of cushions, my material for the cushions will be digitally printed to give them a professional look. I will also create a pattern for a drop of wallpaper. I might also create smaller accessories for around the home that include my watercolour designs.

Using inspiration from Paris, and from other artists my outcomes will hopefully exceed my initial ideas.

Pink Pink Pink

Whilst I love pink just as much as the next person, it is one colour that is often deemed as being too “girly" or "young". Pink is associated with femininity, it is perfect for summer, especially the more softer shades. The right patterns, textures, and accessories can balance a room, bringing a little fun into the home. I created the above mood board inspired by this seasons love of all things pink. These beautiful accessories create a bright, sophisticated and calming room. Muted pink creates a delicate touch, it can be used just as a colour accent or can be used as a neutral background. Don't be afraid to use this colour, blend it with both warm neutrals and deeper berry shades to create the perfect space to live.

Colour Trends of 2014

Based on this years colour trends, this mood board is a great combination of natural elements, soft textures and modern lighting. I created this board through Polyvore, I tried to mix in a bohemian feel with a modern twist using this years colour trends. The colours above are Placid Blue, Paloma, Hemlock and Sand.

Kelly Hoppen

As an independent 16-year-old, Kelly Hoppen was given the opportunity to design a family friend’s kitchen. This kick-started one of the most celebrated careers in the design industry.

Hoppen's ever-evolving style is shown by a subtly coordinated fusion of East meets West; clean lines, neutral tones and fantastic lighting.

She uses a neutral colour palett. Lightening is her key to decoration. By using quirky and interesting lighting allows her to use more simple and clean cut accesories. The lightening in her designs brings a warmth and a homely feel to a very modern room.

Her contemporary designs shows elegance, beauty and comfort. Her use of flowers and plants brings in the outdoors, giving a fresh look.

Kelly Hoppen is one of my favourite interior designs. I came across her when she launched a design show on t.v and since then she has grown and her sophisticated style is becoming known to everyone interested in design. Her participation on Dragon's Den shows how her career has been transformed through the power of determination and the desire to design.

My Fashion Illustrations

These are the fashion illustrations I created based on images from Vouge. After looking at inspiration from other designers, I roughly traced around the images using a pencil, I had the  outline of the figure. I scanned in my drawings and added in colour on Adobe Photoshop. The effect added to the drawings looks like a type of mono print. I went around the lines in a black effect to highlight the lines, which created this print look. By adding in different tones of colour, creates a more 3D look. I then blurred and merged the colours together to make them blend in. I am happy with my final outcomes, and with the style I have created for my work.

Inspirational Fashion Illustrations

Zakhar Krylov

David Downton

Inslee

Fanny Csefalvay

There are a variety of interpretations of fashion illustrations out there. All the above are different in their techniques, but still beautiful and inspiring in using the figure. The use of colour in all the pieces are cleverly used and I particularly like the effect that the watercolour makes. The simple line drawings are not accurate but give you an opportunity to create a unique interpretation of the figure for yourself.
